Corpus Christi College in Leeds recently partnered with Speedkix to create an unforgettable rewards day, seeking a variety of engaging and unique activities that would appeal to a wide range of student interests. Speedkix was asked to deliver a day packed with interactive experiences, including archery, where students could test their focus and precision by aiming for targets. Adding to the excitement, we arranged a Football Shootout zone, allowing students to showcase their kicking accuracy and compete for top scores. The day also featured bubble football, a hilarious twist on traditional soccer, with students bouncing around in inflatable bubbles, creating a fun and friendly atmosphere. To encourage teamwork and cooperation, Speedkix incorporated a series of team challenges, where students worked together to complete physical and mental tasks. Packed with retro carnival games, thrilling rabbit races, and adrenaline-pumping team challenges inspired by Squid Game, this was an event like no other. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at the highlights and how these activities help forge stronger connections among our staff.

Vintage Carnival Games

Who doesn’t love a throwback to simpler times with classic carnival games? We set up everything from popular shuffle pucks to the zig-zag challenge. Each station tested a different skill—whether it was aiming, strength, or strategy. Besides sparking friendly competition, these games gave everyone a chance to laugh, cheer each other on, and even share stories of their favorite childhood carnival memories.

Each game brought out the light-hearted side of our team members, and suddenly, departments blended as everyone rallied together to win tokens and prizes. Not only did it break the ice among newer members, but it also gave veteran colleagues a chance to engage in new ways.

Speedkix QUIDgames- Squid Game inspired team challenges!

Taking inspiration from the popular Squid Game series, we added some edge-of-your-seat challenges to this year’s lineup—but don’t worry, we kept it all fun and safe! Divided into teams, your staff compete in a series of high-stakes games that required problem-solving, strategy, and, at times, a little bravery. Activities included modified versions of Red Light, Green Light (with a twist!) and the ultimate tug-of-war, where only the strongest team would emerge victorious.

These challenges had everyone strategizing, cheering, and pushing their limits in the best possible way. The games also showed us how well our teams worked under pressure and helped us recognize different strengths in each of our colleagues. Trust and communication were essential as we tackled each challenge—some of which pushed our teams to think creatively and quickly.

Speedkix Rabbit Racing

This year’s most anticipated event? Rabbit racing! We went the extra mile to create mini racetracks, complete with lanes for each rabbit to dash along. Our furry contestants were given ample training time, and we even allowed staff to “adopt” a rabbit for the evening, giving them creative names like “Speedster” and “Hopper.” As the race began, teams cheered for their adopted racers, and each round was filled with excitement, laughter, and surprising upsets!

The magic of the rabbit races wasn’t just in the thrill of seeing which bunny crossed the finish line first; it was about the enthusiasm that erupted from each team. This event highlighted the lighter side of competition, emphasizing support, encouragement, and a bit of luck. For many, it was the highlight of the day and a fun way to connect with colleagues they might not work with every day.

With the increasing popularity and resurgence of bingo Speedkix added Speedkix Staff Bingo last year! This has proved a popular activity to add to our teambuilding activities and is a great way to strengthen connections amongst teams and improve cameraderie. World Cup Themed Events

Football Shootouts for World Cup Events

With World Cup in Qatar 2022 just around the corner we just wanted to share with you some great bits of equipment that we have available for hire. This years world cup is going to be a change for many venues as rather than a summer tournament the competition kicks off on November 21st.

Finding activities to celebrate the World Cup therefore can be difficult especially if you are short on space or looking for indoor football themed games to bring to your venue.

Two great football shootouts

The first bit of equipment we bought in 2017 was a football shootout that measured how fast you kick a ball that displays the speed in MPH on a large LED digital display. This is where the Speedkix name was derived from. Since then we have not only added loads of other fantastic activities such as archery, Zorbing, NERF wars and combat archery and much more. Due to demand for our activities we have also added two new shootouts for 2022, that are ideal for indoor and outdoor world cup events.

The shootout on the left is ideal for smaller venues and indoor venues with holes for scoring. With this bit of equipment the ball is kept enclosed and participants score point by shooting the balls into the netted holes at the back. We can also set up a speed measurement system in this type of shootout.

This is a great addition to any World cup party or world cup event. Examples of where we have set the shootouts include shopping centres, workplace including offices, pubs and bars and also schools and educational establishments.

Football Speed Radar for Shopping Centre

You can hire our Speed Radar shootout and football shootout in two ways. A dry hire is cheaper where we come deliver the equipment and set up the activity then return later when you have finished with it. Another way is where we staff the activity for the ultimate Speedkix experience.

Either way you can be sure that all participants will love these activities and make for a great event. Our Speedkix Shootouts are a great way to bring people together.

Mr. Mills, how do you think the day with speed kicks about three days with speed kicks has gone?

Mr Mills ( 00:09 ):

Oh, it's been absolutely unbelievable. The children have, you know, come in with red faces been really active, their mental wellbeing has been really positive. It's been a really positive experience for all of them. They've come in saying how much they've enjoyed doing some of the things they've never done before, like Nerf battles and absorbing and they've. Yeah. They've absolutely loved the experience, over three days.

Andy ( 00:32 ):

Great. So staff, have they found the experience okay. From you booking for instance?

Mr Mills ( 00:39 ):

Yes I've done a lot of the organizational side of things, but you guys have made it so easy to actually put this day together. You've been really helpful in terms of putting a timetable together for us and also thinking about our different year groups when we've given you that information. So that's been really helpful for us here at the school. Staff have found it very simple as well, because once we put all that together, bringing the children out during the days, and we've actually used it as a transition experience in the school, where we've had new classes going out with their teachers. So it's been a great way for children to build those relationships with their new teachers and it's been fantastic for us as a school for that to happen

Andy ( 01:20 ):

Really. Thank you. And the team, the staff team have built some experiences and bonds together haven't they?

Mr Mills ( 01:28 ):

Yeah. So I asked, I asked both of you, it was okay if the staff could actually have some experience of using the equipment too. So we went out last night and had a great team building evening, where we had some zorbing and some of the teachers went a little bit too serious with it. <laugh> nerf battles was great as well. I don't think a lot of the teachers actually had a go with nerf guns before. So I think people enjoyed getting their own back on other people through the year. So yes, it was a brilliant opportunity for us to start to let off some steam and enjoy ourselves as well.

We love Freshers week and we are looking forward to this year more than ever. There is a lot to make up for many students in Freshers Week 2022 because let's face it the start to university has not been normal for the last couple of years! This year you when planning your week you might even need to provide activities for 2nd and 3rd year students that have missed out on so much.

Freshers Event Ideas 2022

When planning your freshers event there is a lot to think about. You will want your freshers week to be inclusive and everyone and keep every one safe. Traditionally freshers events have involved a few tours of local nightlife on an organised pub crawl.

Freshers activities and events are a great way of breaking the ice and making friends and a good way of reducing isolation. Making the transition from home to university a happy and enjoyable one.

How to organise a freshers event?

Decide whether to host an online or in-person event.
Recruit the help of one or two Group members - ideally recent graduates or if you are planning a small event from your society. if you are an SU why not engage the societies before the end of term and ask for ideas for activities.
You could even co-host with another organisation, society to share resources, increase publicity and create a wider audience
Select a date, time and event duration, do you want it to be all day an afternoon or to run over a few evenings
Decide the structure of your event and what you want to get out of it. Do you want to get people active and provide and experience?
Research events companies or specialist freshers activity providers. Check reviews and see if a freshers event company can deal with the numbers you expect.
Promote your event we can help you with this.
Asking volunteers to promote your event round college or university is a great way to give responsibility to current students who have experienced some of the issues faced by freshers and create a great atmosphere.

Looking for a great family activity in York?

Archery is a great activity for families and groups in York. At Speedkix we have a mobile archery range and we also have some great archery venues in York, such as Sandburn Hall. We have recently just done a fantastic archery event for two hours for a group of 15 people with some great feedback.

How many people works best for archery?

The ideal minimum amount is 4 people. This can be made up with any combination of children or adults. However if we have another booking we may be able to have a session for just two people. We do hour sessions for small groups and for larger groups we can deliver a longer session. Usually an hour of archery is all you need to see a massive improvements for beginners. For all levels of experience of archery we can organise loads of fun games and competitions.

What age is archery suited for?

We start from 7 years of age and we have had people on our archery activities in their late seventies. So it really is a massively inclusive sporting activity and one reason that is fast becoming one of our most popular activities So even grandparents can take part with grandchildren.

How much does it cost?

We normally work on a family or group of friends for £25pp. For larger groups we can apply a discount. Obviously you do not have to be from the same family why not try archery with a group of friends?

Secondary school rewards ideas that are inclusive and fun are sometimes difficult to find. Choosing which activities that the whole school can enjoy used to be difficult. You want a school rewards day that can engage your students and create the wow factor to incentivise good behaviour and reward good attendance. Let's face it their is no point going to the trouble of organising a school reward day for the young people to be a bit nonplussed after looking forward to their experience.

When children are asked 'how was the reward day?' As a school, parent, teacher or carer you do not want the standard teenager response 'It was OK'. You want the students to talk with excitement about the activities they took part in and to go into detail about what they enjoyed about the day. In short you want their rewards day to be memorable not only from a personal perspective but when completing pupil questionnaire questions surrounding 'encouraging me to look after my physical health' and 'I take part in school activities outside of lessons, like clubs, sports, music and art.' So if you can also meet some OFSTED criteria along the way is you really are on to a winner.

So it may be a good idea to get the student voice involved when planning activities. This is something over my many years of teaching we used when putting together our activity programme for the year. We set the parameters from the start with a strong hope that they would choose activities that were practical, safe, affordable and also inclusive . Some other rewards day ideas for you to think about

Residentials , in my experience residentials are a great as a means of rewarding good behaviour and excellent attendance. They are a great carrot to get young people to maintain high standards. The issue is cost and logistics and if you want a whole school rewards activity this may have implications especially if you are asking parents to help cover the cost in these difficult financial times for many families.

Foods rewards for students . Whether it is getting to the front of the dinner queue or choosing their favourite food this could be a possible inexpensive way to reward your students. However the food of choice is often not the healthiest such as pizza or foods with high sugar or salt content. Not really the types of food choices a school would want to promote.

A Theme Park trip can certainly be a lot cheaper option than a residential, there are lots of discounts flying around for school trips, but still the price per head may be high. Also with not as many logistical issues as residential. As you can take large numbers away at one time having less impact on resources for cover and time away from the curriculum.

Sports Event Similar to the Theme Park option. Not all young people are sports fans but you do not have to enjoy a particular sport to soak up the experience. I remember taking a group of students to some of the Olympics and we watched women's football at Newcastle United's ground. Ticket were relatively cheap but it was a great experience. This year we are hosting the Women's Rugby League world cup in York for instance.

In what has been a difficult couple of years finding an activity that can be inclusive and improve mental health could help with many facets of life. That is why we are so excited to introduce our latest activity. Archery can also be a great introduction to exercise whatever level of physical activity as it builds muscle strength. That is why we have qualified archery GB instructor to deliver this activity. Aswell as the physical benefits of archery do not understimate the mental gains from participation in an archery event. The mental focus required and concentration required can also help with mindfulness. The ability to focus is also something that can be taken into all walks of life whether you are a young person, or even have a business career also allows you to have a release from everyday stress.

Another reason that we use archery is because people can gain a massive amount of confidence from trying a new skill where they can see progress and rapid improvement which builds self-esteem. It is also a really socialable activity, we can introduce team events to improve comaraderie but it is also a form of physical activity where participants can chat and have those informal conversations that improve relationships and break down barriers.

Exciting things to come and time to reflect on the journey so far....

The last two years have been quite a journey for me. As soon as we went into lockdown starting with Sainsburys as a delivery driver as all the events would come to a stop. Setting up a not for profit company to help with the impact on mental health and well-being in the height of restrictions, having the best year with Speedkix Ltd have been some real highlights.

Spending on the road, I had a lot of time to think about business strategy and listened to loads of business audio books. In between shifts, I also concentrated on my personal development by accessing business coaching and other courses that would benefit me in business.

Throughout my whole working life one of the biggest satisfactions has been to help people whether it be in a coaching, my 20 years teaching or helping in the local community. After seeing the impact on mental health and wellbeing, first hand, I decided to set up a not for profit company called SIVIK Active to improve well-being and mental health for young people. The goalkeeper schools were put on hold apart from the free GK challenges and free content, I put out on facebook to keep the keepers engaged.

Since restrictions were lifted last year Speedkix Ltd we have had our most successful year yet to date and we have delivered a range of teambuilding events for companies wishing to get the workforce active and improve mental health and well-being. Thousands of people took part in some sort of Speedkix activity in 2021. We also launched 'Winning Workplaces' fun competitive events for companies of all sizes. A percentage of the profits from these events go towards providing free activities for young people in the local community.

This year is already proving to be exciting as lots of schools and educational establishments have booked us in. We also are talking to lots of local companies who value their colleagues and recognise the benefits of bringing the workplace together and re-engaging with each other. We will also be providing a permanent attraction at Flamingoland amongst some other prestigious Yorkshire venues.

I feel that my many years playing as a goalkeeper has been a metaphor for my journey in business so far. The ability get down and back up both physically and mentally has really helped me cope with some of the difficulties of restrictions on business over recent times. Yes, I have had some low points over recent times, like so many people but I don’t think I would be writing this post now had I not got used to knock backs and disappointments and to bounce back from a young age.

Just last week, I accepted an offer on my goalkeeping schools which was my very first business venture. I am feeling really proud that an international company has seen the value of something that I built from scratch and have been so passionate about.

So there are likely to be some bumps in the road and if one thing my journey so far in business is never to take things for granted and to keep working hard, but I am really looking forward to what the next year brings in new opportunities and continuing to help people get active, improve mental well-being and making a positive difference to those around me.

The best kids parties in York? Don't take our word for it....

Since restrictions were initially lifted in July 2020 we have given loads of kids the type of party they deserve. With great service and delivery every time. This weekend alone four children will be lucky enough to have a Speedkix Party and we are confident that the parents will think they have made the right choice. Since we launched Speedkix in 2018 we have delivered over 220 parties and have never recieved anything less than a 5 star review on google.

So how do we do it?

It all starts with your initial enquiry. We take time to find out about your child and what they enjoy so we can put together a great range of activities. We also think about the rest of group to ensure that at a Speedkix party is inclusive and everyone will enjoy the party so we often allow customers to choose more than one activity (including the parents) We also have a transparent pricing policy, no hidden extras the price for a 90 minute party is just £195 within York. There is a nominal charge for bringing the party to you to cover travel.

We limit the amount of parties we deliver every week. Why? We want to create a personal experience for every child we work with and to ensure that things run smoothly. After years of working in teaching we also recognise our own personal limitations.

Alot of work goes on behind the scenes when we deliver a Speedkix party. If you use one of our venues we can book the venue for you. We also give you advice on what works well. We keep in regular contact and two days before your party we check in with our customers to make sure everything is OK from your end. This is something that we have always done and not since the pandemic. The main reason we do this is to reassure you as a parent that we have everything sorted our end and as a quality control measure.

For every party we pack one of the vans the day before and check all of the equipment. If you are reading this and you have had a party with us you will know that we turn up a minimum of 30 minutes before the start time and sometimes earlier if we are not familiar with the venue.

So what makes our delivery unique? If you are parent you may have had that sense of dread when your child brings another party invitation from school for one of the 'same old parties'. The only thing that is the 'same' about a Speedkix kids party is that we guarantee a great experience and everyone will have a fantastic time.

Our skills and over 20 years of teaching mean that we can make the party fun but we also make your child feel special (however with our experience we realise that some children do not like to be the centre of attention-we have delivered a number of parties to children with special needs) One of the many comments we often get is how well we control the group we do this by engaging fully with all of the guests and have the ability to adapt the party to suit all levels of ability. Whatever activity your child chooses, we have also developed a range of unique games which provides a structure to the party. We love what we and put alot of energy into everything we do and that comes accross at every party. Putting on the activities is the best part of our job.

Winning workplaces launched in York

This week we launched our first ever 'Winning Workplaces' which is an initiative to bring workplaces together to improve mental and physical health. We had York's Local radio station YO1 down to take part aswell broadcasting the show from our venue at Sanburn Hall. The teams took part in various physical and mental challenges all finished off with a Quiz and food. At Speedkix we pride ourselves on our delivery and using our years of experience of working with groups from all backgrounds we put on some great inclusive activites. The archery was a real hit and the improvement made by all participants was amazing which made for a really exciting competition which contributed to the overall team standings.

"Not another school event cancelled?" Another milestone missed

Let's face it, school is still a challenging place for teachers and school leaders aswell as pupils. All colleagues recognise the impact that Covid is having on children and the difficulty of planning a broad curriculum and providing experiences that are memorable.

Last week my youngest child's school cancelled their trip to the to the annual concert in Sheffield, in January, in response to concerns over large numbers travelling together on transport to the venue. Only a few weeks prior to this his Year 6 leavers residential was postponed for much the same reasons. Year 6 residentials have over recent years have long been regarded as a coming of age milestone, in much the same way year 11 proms celebrate another milestone in children's lives. My eldest was looking forward to history trip to WW1 battlefields and was immensely disappointed that this is unlikely to go ahead.

We know that resilience is one of the core life-skills . We all have had to deal with disappointments and set backs, however for children there have been so many in a short space of time. It is important to give them that sense of perspective that if trips and residentials are cancelled it is 'not the end of the world, although to children it may seem like it at the time.

As a former teacher, I can emphasise with how much work goes into planning an off-site activity or residentials. We would plan months in advance and spend considerable time booking accomodation and extra activities and instructors, not to mention the extra work planning the curriculum and cover for the cohorts not on residentials. As Head of Large department I was passionate about providing young people with exciting experiences and had an extensive off-site programme, such as visits with the Armed Forces or emergency services. On occasions due to operational reasons trips were pulled at the last minute. I can still remember, with huge sense of dread, the difficult conversations we had to have with students. So I really do not envy some of the difficult decisions and conversations that teachers and School Leaders have have with children and parents in the last two years.

Schools that are inventive have found other ways to celebrate and reward achievements or even just celebrate being together again. It is important to manage expectations as we do not know how long these changes will last. Managing expectations of parents is also a huge challenge. So to focus on the good things that are happening around school and also re-engaging with friends are now more important than ever.

Do you have to have a certain level of fitness?

We have designed a programme to be as inclusive as possible. Each team can nominate participants for each activity and for particpants who want to get more active there will be an opportunity to get more active in some of the activities.

What if I have a large company and I want to enter more than one team?

If you are a larger company that values your staff we can accomodate up to 30 people from one workplace

What if I only have a small team?

We have designed the programme so smaller companies can enjoy a staff social experience. If you cannot quite raise a team of 5 why not invite a valued customer or client or even an adult family member to take part and make some fantastic memories.

My company will not contribute?

Not a problem, if you have a group of work colleagues that enjoy each other's company why not get a team together for a Staff Social with a diffence. The process is exactly the same. Some companies may give colleagues a contribution towards the costs, again not a problem.

What is in it for my workplace?

With many teams working remotely this event is a great way to re-engage staff. Also if colleagues have worked throughout the pandemic then it is a good way of rewarding staff and showing that you care about their well-being. This may help attract new staff or retain valued colleauges. Multiple studies have also shown that getting active and movement can improve mental health reducing time away from the workplace. You will also be helping young people in your local community as 15% of profits go to SIVIK Active which is not for profit company that provide free activities for young people.

Does it take place indoors?

Yes over winter 'Winning Workplaces' will take place indoors in the Sportshall at Sanburn Hall with a fantastic area to chill out and socialise after the activities and have food.

What is the cost?

For an investment of £195 per team of 5 people, this is an inexpensive way to get your team active, having fun and improving workplace well-being, whilst knowing you are also helping young people in your local community. Buffet Food is included in the price.

Activities to improve mental health and well-being in Yorkshire

The pandemic has seen an increase of young people affected by mental health. We have also seen an increase in young people becoming inactive and this is a major concern for us at Speedkix. This summer we have provided activities and workshops through our not for profit organisation SIVIK Active CIC, to help people re-engage with their friends and the local communities. This was made possible by a grant award from the Two Ridings foundation. We have also worked with City of York Council to provide a programme of events as part of the Holiday Activity Fund, for children on free school meals.

We have also seen an increase in workplaces who value the well-being of staff and are looking for some fun teambuilding events and staff socials. We are also supporting schools and other educational establishments to provide rewards for pupils and already have bookings for summer 2022.

We are looking forward to working collaboratively with other organisations to provide a safe, fun environment to help people flourish after such a difficult time. It was great to see some of the young people on the BBC national news showing great confidence in discussing some of the issues they face.

What is bubble football?

Bubble Football or as it is sometimes referred to as body Zorbing involves wearing an inflatable Zorb with the rules similar to football but with the excitement of trying to take out the opposition by bumping them off their feet!

You will be strapped into one of our inflatable Zorbs and will bump, barge and knock eveyone in sight around almost like human bumper cars.

Is it just football wearing an inflatable zorb?

When you choose a bubble football or zorbing activity you a Speedkix event supervisor will also organise some other fanstastic games that are sure to put a smile on everyones face including the spectators!!

One on One Knockdown
and the Team Knockdown

Is Bubble Football dangerous?

No, but like any sport or physical activity there is some risk involved. However all activities are supervised and participants are briefed so if individuals follow instructions it probably is no more dangerous than other team sports.

Who is bubble football for?

Bubble football is aimed at any group of people that want to have an exciting fun activity. Zorbing and bubble football are popular stag and hen party activities in York and other towns and cities such as Leeds, Harrogate, Scarborough and the North East. A bubble football kids party always is a real hit (excuse the pun)

This event is also popular with primary, secondary and indpendent schools love the bubble football and zorb activities for inset days or leavers events or just getting kids active.

Zorbing is also a popular teambuilding activity and a good way of breaking down barriers getting workplaces active and having fun with a staff social. This is why it is a popular activity for companies to get their employees back into the workplace.

We are also a popular activity for college and university freshers activities and it also zorbing and bubble football is also a firm favourite for sports club presentations.

Where can I do bubble football near me?

The great thing about bubble football is that as long as you have an open space either of grass or astroturf about the size of a tennis court then you are good to go. Bubble football can also be delivered in a sportshall. We have bubble football venues in York, Leeds, Harrogate and Scarborough and in the North of England . We have also brought our events to surrounding villages in parks or on school or sports playing fields (with permission).

We also can bring the zorbing fun to you and we have done many events in large gardens! We deliver all over Yorkshire and the North East regularly and travel further afield for larger events as all of our equipment is fully mobile.
